12mo (159 × 102 mm) in half-sheets, pp. 36, with a hand-coloured folding frontispiece (torn along one fold); lightly browned due to paper stock; uncut and unopened in the original publisher’s wrappers.
First edition of an American view of Mathews’ tour, likewise with a hand-coloured folding frontispiece, but featuring different characters. ‘Two settings of the cover title noted; in one the words “trip to America” are in an open-faced type’ (American Antiquarian Society). Here, ‘Trip to America’ is in an open-faced type on the title-page, but in ordinary type on the wrapper.
