Tall 12mo (215 × 127 mm) in half-sheets, pp. vii, [1], 184; some light, infrequent spotting; original publisher’s boards with printed paper spine label, a little chipped, short tear at head.
First and only edition: a mature work by the Cambridge-educated clergyman and miscellaneous writer (an account of his interviews with Johnson were published in the New Monthly Magazine). Turner (1739–1826) had written poetry earlier in his career; his Infant Institutes (1797) contains the first appearance of ‘Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater’. Here he turns to the Psalms, paraphrasing all 150 into various verse forms.
