WILSON, Margaret.
WILSON, Margaret. The Sailor’s Daughter; a tributary Monody on the recent Death of Grace Darling. By Mrs C[ornwell]. Baron Wilson. [Presumably Newcastle-upon-Tyne:] Printed at the Northern Advertiser Office [c.1842].
Small 8vo leaf (185 × 113 mm), printed on recto only; upper margin lightly dust-soiled, disbound.
A rare piece of ephemera lamenting the death of Grace Darling (1815–1842), the lighthouse keeper’s daughter who, in saving the lives of a group of sailors in 1838, became a national hero. Wilson (1797–1846) was a poet, biographer (one of the first women to do so), and editor of the Weekly Belle Assemblée (later the New Monthly Belle Assemblée) ‘A Magazine of Literature and Fashion’, which featured both serialized fiction and poetry.
